Cheap car rental at Durrës Port: compare the full cost

A low daily rate is useful only when the car, port handover and rental conditions fit the same trip. Use this guide to compare the amount you may actually pay and the obligations attached to it.

Reviewed 20 September 2026

Start with the same dates and port plan

Compare cars for identical pickup and return times. Confirm whether Durrës Port collection is included, offered for a fee or arranged at another meeting point, and allow for the real ferry arrival process before choosing the time.

Build a complete price

Add the rental total, delivery, extras, additional drivers and any paid deposit-reduction option. Keep the security deposit and insurance excess separate because neither is automatically part of the advertised rental price.

Choose the smallest car that fits

A compact car can reduce both price and parking difficulty, but only if passengers and luggage fit safely. Compare transmission, boot space and required child seats instead of selecting solely by category name.

Check the return before booking

Confirm fuel policy, mileage, return point and the procedure if your ferry schedule changes. A cheaper offer can become inconvenient when an early return, different location or uncertain meeting arrangement is left unresolved.

Define cheap by the trip total, not one daily number

The cheapest Durrës Port car rental is the suitable offer with the lowest complete cost for your actual journey. A daily rate cannot answer that question alone. The collection point, rental duration, transmission, luggage capacity, permitted driver and return arrangement all affect whether the offer works. Start with the same dates and local times for every comparison. Then note what is included and what still has to be confirmed. This keeps a low headline price from distracting you from a delivery fee, an unsuitable collection window or an essential extra that appears later in the booking process.

Treat every price as a snapshot for a specific search. Vehicle availability and conditions can change with dates, demand and supplier. Do not copy an old example price into your budget or assume that a rate shown for another month applies to a summer ferry arrival. Use the live search on the Vrenty Car home page, open the details of the individual car and compare like with like. A useful comparison records the rental total, advance payment, balance, security deposit, optional services and any agreed port delivery charge as separate lines.

Set dates around the ferry arrival you can realistically make

Enter the full rental period rather than rounding it to convenient calendar days. A ferry may arrive before the car can be handed over, and disembarkation or entry formalities can separate the scheduled arrival from the moment you reach an agreed meeting point. Use local time and give yourself a practical margin. If your sailing is delayed, the reservation does not automatically move with it. Ask how the supplier wants to receive an update, how long the representative can wait and whether a late handover creates a charge or requires a different arrangement.

The return deserves the same attention. Work backwards from the ferry check-in or the next stage of your trip and leave time for fuel, finding the agreed location, unloading luggage and completing an inspection. An offer that saves a small amount but creates a rushed or uncertain return may not be cheap in practice. Confirm any out-of-hours collection or return before payment. Keep the written answer with your voucher so that the price comparison includes the service you actually need, not an assumed version of it.

Separate rental price, advance payment, deposit and excess

Four amounts are often confused. The rental price pays for use of the car. An advance payment may form part of that total and be paid during booking. A security deposit is held or collected under the selected agreement. The excess describes potential responsibility for covered damage under the applicable protection. None of these terms should be substituted for another. A small advance does not prove a small deposit, and a zero deposit does not by itself remove an excess or every possible charge.

Write the values in separate rows before ranking offers. Also record the accepted method for each payment and the currency in which it is due. Check whether a card must belong to the main driver and whether debit card or cash is permitted for the selected vehicle. If a paid service reduces or removes the deposit, include its price in the trip total rather than treating the resulting deposit figure as free. The final conditions of the selected car are more important than a general filter label.

Compare the port handover as a priced service

Durrës Port is an arrival area, not one universal rental counter for every offer. The meeting point may depend on the supplier, vehicle and agreed delivery arrangement. Check whether the price includes collection at the port, whether delivery has a stated fee and where you should go after leaving the passenger process. Do not infer the location from a map pin, another company's desk or an old travel report. The voucher and a confirmed supplier message should describe the arrangement attached to your booking.

When two cars have similar rates, the clearer handover can be the better-value choice. Compare the total time and any transport needed to reach an alternative city location. A slightly lower rate may lose its advantage if you need a taxi, wait with luggage or cannot collect at the hour your ferry arrives. This is not a reason to assume port delivery is always best; accommodation delivery or a later city pickup can suit some itineraries. Price the arrangement you intend to use and keep a fallback contact available offline.

Choose vehicle size from people, bags and roads

An economy or compact car often has a lower rate and is easier to place in busy streets, but it is only economical when the occupants and luggage fit without compromising visibility or comfort. Count full-size cases, cabin bags, pushchairs and child seats. A five-seat label does not tell you how much boot space remains with five occupants. If you need an automatic transmission, select it explicitly and compare the available cars with that requirement applied; changing transmission later may alter both choice and price.

Do not pay for an SUV merely because the itinerary includes Albania. Match the vehicle to roads permitted by the agreement and the journeys you have actually planned. A crossover can provide useful space or seating height, but its appearance does not authorise rough tracks, beaches or restricted approaches. Conversely, the smallest city car may be uncomfortable for several adults on a long route. The cost-effective choice balances rental price, fuel use, luggage, driver confidence and the supplier's road restrictions rather than following one category rule.

Read cover before deciding that one offer is cheaper

Protection names and badges are summaries, not complete contracts. Compare the excess and the stated exclusions for the individual car. Look for the treatment of tyres, glass, underbody, keys and damage on roads that are not permitted. Check what you must do after an incident, which contacts to use and whether a police or other report is required. An offer with a lower rate but a risk profile you do not understand is not yet a useful price comparison.

Optional protection should be evaluated as part of the total only when it is relevant to your decision. Avoid assuming that an extra product makes every event payable or changes the agreement's restrictions. Read the scope, exclusions and claim procedure before adding it. If two offers use different protection structures, place their rental total, deposit and excess side by side instead of trying to compress everything into one label. Ask a precise question before booking when a material condition is unclear, and retain the answer with the accepted terms.

Add fuel, mileage, drivers and equipment to the comparison

Fuel policy changes what you need to return, not just what the car costs at pickup. Confirm the required level, fuel type and evidence expected at return. Review included mileage against the route you are likely to drive, allowing for ordinary local use rather than an unrealistically exact total. If a limit applies, note the price and method for excess distance. A low rental rate can be poor value for a long itinerary when the mileage allowance does not fit it.

Add every driver who needs to be authorised and include any related fee. Check age and licence-experience requirements for the selected car rather than relying on a general assumption. Reserve child seats or other essential equipment in the booking and confirm the price and availability. Navigation can often be handled by a phone, but offline maps and a secure mount may still need planning. The purpose of the list is not to buy every extra; it is to prevent an essential item from appearing only after you chose the apparent cheapest car.

Plan parking and the return condition before pickup

Ask your accommodation for the vehicle entrance and actual parking arrangement, especially when a map pin marks reception rather than a driveway. Clarify whether parking is private, shared, paid or off site and whether access suits the selected car. In town, follow current signs and authorised payment instructions. Another parked vehicle does not prove that a space is permitted. A compact car may reduce parking effort, but it does not make an unlawful or obstructive space acceptable.

At collection, inspect the vehicle in a safe place and record existing marks, fuel level and agreed equipment according to the handover procedure. Learn the controls before entering traffic. At return, allow time to repeat the documentation, obtain the supplier's record and follow the confirmed key procedure. These steps do not increase the advertised rental price, but they protect the clarity of the agreement and later accounting. A cheap booking is easier to defend when collection and return evidence is organised.

Compare cancellation and schedule flexibility

A low rate can be less valuable when your ferry, accommodation or wider itinerary is still uncertain. Read the cancellation deadline, refund arrangement and method for requesting a change before paying. Check whether a new pickup time, rental duration or collection point has to be repriced. A request is not the same as an accepted amendment, so retain written confirmation and compare the revised total with the original booking. Do not assume that a ferry cancellation automatically cancels the car without cost; the transport ticket and rental reservation are separate services with their own terms.

Use flexibility according to the real risk in your trip rather than treating free cancellation as a decorative badge. If two offers meet the same vehicle and port requirements, the clearer change process may justify a modest difference in price. At the same time, do not pay for flexibility you do not need without understanding it. Note the deadline in the time zone used by the booking terms and save the support channel. When plans change, provide the reservation number, original details and precise requested change, then wait for confirmation before relying on the new arrangement.

Use a final checklist before choosing the offer

First confirm that the vehicle fits the people, luggage and transmission requirement. Then verify Durrës Port pickup, local time, delay procedure and return location. Record rental total, advance payment, balance, delivery and essential extras. Keep deposit and excess in separate fields, with the accepted payment method for each. Review mileage, fuel, additional drivers, cancellation and the roads you plan to use. This sequence turns a page of attractive prices into a small set of offers that can genuinely serve the trip.

Choose only after the unresolved questions have been answered in a channel you can retain. Save the offer terms and voucher, and check the supplier and meeting details when confirmation arrives. Vrenty Car provides planning information and access to the Localrent comparison service; it is not the fleet operator or the port desk. Availability and conditions belong to the selected booking. The best-value result is therefore not a universal car or rate, but a transparent offer whose full cost and practical arrangement you understand before travelling.
